I embrace the idea that birthing is the work of a community. Extending the status quo thinking beyond the ideology of a parent/OB birthing team, allows us to rediscover and recreate the traditions that once supported people in birth. As a birthing doula, I wish to participate as a welcomed member of a supportive birthing community, and that this chosen community can traverse the unknown path of birthing together.
Throughout the birthing process, no matter the setting, I offer support by reminding folks they are not alone. I guide each person to trust their instincts and the power of their body. No matter the turns that the birthing path may unexpectedly take, I hold space for the emotions, needs, or desires that may come up during this process. In my years of experience, I have facilitated many types of births. I act as support, readily able to offer options. I respect the choices that each individual makes, trusting that they know what is right for their birth process. As a child, I was drawn to, fascinated, and enchanted by the ability and power of the human body. Still holding on to that same wonder, I believe birth is one of the greatest human experiences and I want to be a part of as many birthing journeys as the universe will lead me to. |
